Hike, ATV, Kayak in Mesquite & Surrounding Areas
Gold Butte is located between the Grand Canyon Parashant National Monument, Arizona, and Lake Mead National Recreation Area, just south of the City of Mesquite. With 300,000 acres, the area is a desert wonderland chalk full of ancient indian rock art from thousands of years ago, astounding sandstone formations, exhausted mines from the 1800s and beautiful desert flora and fauna. Gold Butte possesses miles and miles of back country trails that will take you on foot or by vehicle to all of them.
If it's group hikes and guided tours you're interested in, you can join over 90 members with Friends of Gold Butte on MeetUp.com. If you're more the solitary type you can head out there on your own. Pick up your trail guides at the Gold Butte Visitor's Center (12 Mesquite Blvd inside of the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce). Then take I-15 south to the Riverside Exit and make a left. Once you cross over the Virgin River turn right onto Gold Butte Road and start your adventure. Please always remember to pack out what you packed in and keep in mind the desert is extremely fragile. Be careful to preserve this exquisite landscape for generations to come.
